On August 12th, 2023, the Afro-Arab Youth Council (AAYC) marked the International Youth Day with an inspiring celebration held at Mpoma School in Mukono. The event revolved around the theme “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” reflecting the pressing need for equipping young individuals with skills that contribute to a more environmentally conscious and sustainable future.
The event drew participation from more than 200 enthusiastic students, while a select group of 15 actively engaged in a dialogue. The dialogue participants hailed from various academic levels, including students from grades S1, S4, S6, and S3.
Facilitated by the AAYC team, the dialogue aimed to elucidate the significance of green skills in shaping a more sustainable world. Through engaging discussions and informative sessions, the students gained a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges our planet faces and the role they can play in addressing these issues through acquiring green skills.
Dorothy Ainembabazi, the Communications Officer representing the Secretary General Hon. Agaba Abbas, delivered a pivotal moment by inaugurating the inaugural “Afro-Arab Youth Club.” This groundbreaking initiative seeks to extend the reach and influence of AAYC among the youth.
The establishment of the Afro-Arab Youth Club signifies an effort to cultivate a dynamic team dedicated to embedding the core values of AAYC—peace, unity, and development—within the younger generation.
In addition to the enlightening discussions, the Afro-Arab Youth Council proudly announced its commitment to social welfare. As part of their dedication to uplifting the community, the AAYC distributed over 200 sanitary towels to students, recognizing the importance of menstrual hygiene in promoting the well-being and education of young women.
Furthermore, in recognition of the participants’ engagement and enthusiasm, the AAYC awarded 15 certificates to the dialogue’s active contributors. These certificates stand as tokens of appreciation and serve as a testament to the valuable insights and perspectives shared during the event.
