Context Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) was formed in 2004 at the conclusion of the first ever African and Arab Youth Festival held in Khartoum, Sudan as per the Khartoum Declaration. Its headquarters shifted to Kampala in 2008 at the conclusion of the second similar festival in which the youth gathered in Munyonyo decided to construct a permanent home as secretariate for the AAYC in Uganda as per the Kampala communique. The AAYC aims to use practical approaches to deal with youth pressing issues and provide realistic solutions which corelate with the current times. It is therefore an advocacy/lobby group for youth with membership of over 50 countries of the Africana and Arab world including African Union, Arab League and other International bodies.

 

Position Objective The Accountant will plan and direct the accounting activities of the department. This will include budgets, payrolls, management of taxes and account reporting and debt collection.

 

Supervisory Duties (30%)

 

  • Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.
  • Ensures recruit of accounting and financial staff and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.
Main Duties (15%)
  • Follow the internal controls and guidelines established by internal audit for accounting transactions.
  • Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
  • Responsible for tax planning throughout the fiscal year; files annual corporate tax return.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Organization is compliant with Government statutory deductions, NSSF, LST, PAYE etc.
  • Provides the Internal Auditor with relevant documents to audit accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
  • Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of finance information.
  • Responsible for preparation of all organization payments.
  • Manage organization bank reconciliations.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

 

Other Duties (5%)
  • Responds to queries from other departments, customers, stakeholders, members of the public and overseas contacts.
  • Assists with the planning and co-ordination of conferences, projects and events.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Academic Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

Certified Public Accounting (U) minimum level 3 or ACCA.

5years experience in accounting or related department.
