The Mak@100 give back to the community organized by Uganda Red Cross Makerere Chapter in partnership with Afro-Arab Youth Council

Makerere University-Kampala Uganda: On Friday 21st October 2022, Makerere University Red cross chapter in Partnership with Afro-Arab Youth Council (AAYC) conducted a community give back to the community of Katanga-Wandegeya Kampala as part of the slum areas of Uganda.

Activities commenced with the flag off by Hon.Dr Abbas Agaba the Secretary General Afro Arab Youth Council, followed by cleaning around Makerere Police station and briefing of the team from both Afro Arab and Makerere Red cross chapter before heading to Katanga a “Ghetto” where cleaning took place. The cleaning including among others opening of trenches and open grounds.

The two teams managed to visit St.Rozalia Kindergaten and Junior school and Wandegeya Muslim Nursery and Primary School where they donated scholastic materials like pens, books,pencils and sanitary pads to girls.

On the health part, the teams equipped the local community with Knowledge on signs and symptoms of Ebola disease and how they can prevent it as it has claimed lives of Ugandans since its out break. So far the Ministry of Health has announced more-than 4 deaths.

Dr.Nansozi Muwanga who also doubles as the Patron Makerere red cross chapter stated that they have initiated the spirit of giving back to the community because it is the only way the neighboring community can attach value to the mighty Makerere University.

She stressed that as Makerere University and Julius Nyerere Leadership Center, giving back is one of the charitable works they are always interested in since they create spirits of brotherhood and unity among communities. The outreach helps Makerere as it ushers in another century of excellence.

She thanked Afro-Arab Youth Council for the partnership towards the cause meant to transform the community around the mighty Makerere university.

While addressing participants, Dr Abbas Agaba implored the youths to learn self employment as a priority saying “There is no better job like self employment, you can earn 3m-4m but your own job will always be the best”. He added that youths should be drivers of regional integration.

Dr.Agaba said, leaders should provide a  wider platform for youths development to reduce cases of labor export in the Country for green jobs .
