The Afro-Arab Youth Council has launched a distinctive School Capacity-Building Campaign in central and Eastern Uganda. This initiative, titled Capacity Building for Students and Teachers in Conflict Resolutions, is a unique personal development campaign. It aims to equip teachers and students with innovative teaching methods and tools, fostering a more effective and engaging learning environment.
The campaign started at Aggrey Memorial Secondary School -Bunamwaya on 4 June 2024. The AAYC team engaged with students and teachers to foster peacebuilding and conflict resolution and enhance personal development, self-discipline, and self-preservation. Over 500 students attended.
The Headteacher, Miss Nakagoro Robinah, welcomed and appreciated the AAYC Campaign and urged the team to return with more projects, stating that the school would be delighted to host them again.
On 6th June 2024, the team proceeded to Wanyange Girl School-Jinja where they conducted two sessions of O and A’ level students which was more interactive with Q and A sessions. Both sessions were moderated by the Projects and programs Manager, Ms. Mary Mutesi who the brief background about AAYC and the sole purpose for the school Outreach Capacity Building Campaign and its importance to the young generation of today.
The AAYC liaison for youth and civil society manager, Ms. Halima Nansubuga, addressed the students directly and urged them to develop Self-discipline. She emphasized that this trait enables consistent effort, goal setting, and overcoming challenges. Ms. Nansubuga challenged the students to embody the following values: acceptance, Hard Work, Execution, and Persistence, as these are the keys to their personal and academic success.
Furthermore, Ms. Sophia Namatiiti echoed about Self-preservation, which she described as action taken to protect one physical and mental health. With increased cases of mental health issues, Ms. Sophie urged students to set goals, pursue education, and make responsible decisions that contribute to their long-term success and fulfillment so as not to fall short.
On Peacebuilding and conflict resolution, Mr. Musa Kazibwe emphasized respecting everyone’s different origins to promote peace in our communities. With peacebuilding, Musa encouraged students to volunteer to become peace ambassadors.

This campaign will significantly improve the quality of education in participating schools. Teachers will be better equipped to handle diverse classrooms, utilize technology effectively, and foster a more inclusive and stimulating learning environment. Ultimately, this will improve student performance, higher engagement levels, and a positive school culture.
