Context

Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) was inaugurated by youth of Africa and Arab world gathering in Khartoum, Sudan in 2004. Its headquarter later changed to Uganda after the resolution of the Afro Arab Youth Festival of 2008, in Munyonyo (Kampala Declaration) that resolved to construct its AAYC permanent home in Kampala. A secretariat was set up at Bunamwaya to pursue the objectives of the AAYC as outlined in the AAYC Statutes.

The AAYC aims to use practical approaches to deal with youth pressing issues and provide realistic solutions which corelate with the current times. It is therefore an advocacy group for youth with membership of over 50 countries of the African and Arab world including African Union, Arab League and other International bodies.

 

Position Objective

In charge of collaborating with various Youth Organizations both Government and Non-Government, Universities & Other Institutions of Higher Learning, and Member Countries.

Main Duties (30%)

  • Participates in strategic planning and goal setting for the Unit in collaboration with the Director of Communications and International Relations.

  • Communicates with the Secretary General about ongoing programs, projects and events.

  • Schedules engagements of Liaise with National Youth organizations to process: -

    • Membership (International and National) with AAYC.

    • Partnerships for common programs and projects.

    • National legislation regarding government and youth organizations, consultation

  • Keep an updated register of youth organization and other organization dealing with youth and civil society organizations.

  • Organize cultural and other similar events which promote the vision of AAYC.

  • Draft, assess possible partnerships with different youth organizations. 

  • Designing and Understanding of contracts, MoUs and agreements.

  • Advise the AAYC on possible linkages and areas of common interest with other organizations involved in similar vision.

  • Establish and follow-up AAYC University charters in liaison with the Secretary General.

  • Share Opportunities with such organizations working for youth with youth interests.

  • Carry out similar tasks assigned by the Secretary General. AAYC and follow-up. 

  • Provides strategic Government relations support to Afro-Arab programs and projects.

  • Develops Afro-Arab stakeholder engagement with Government, multilateral Institutions, and Civil Society on the Future of Work, innovation in the sector. 

  • Write analysis, briefing, messaging and speeches as related to Afro- Arab Governments and sustainability relations, and monitoring and evaluation of project impact;

  • In-charge of all the Public Relations and marketing arm of the Organization.

  • Engage corporate partners, sponsors and ensure AAYC is part of corporate engagements. 

  • Attend media presentations on radio, TV where AAYC is invited /involvement.

  • Author write-ups and articles for print media, press, radio, online and other forums of engagement.

Academic Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Marketing, Communications or any relevant field

  • At least three years’ working experience in working with Youth Organizations or in a similar capacity.

  • Knowledge of dynamics of youth leadership and partnership.

  • Lobbying and advocacy skills.

  • Versatility and ability to work with minimum supervision
