AAYC Secretary General Meets with Dr. Mustapha Abdullah, Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria

In a significant engagement to strengthen regional cooperation and youth empowerment, the Secretary General of the Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) and his team held a meeting with Dr. Mustapha Abdullah, the Director General and Chief Executive of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN). The meeting focused on the key role of the Energy Commission in driving energy development and its potential collaboration with the AAYC West Africa Regional Office that was established  to support youth initiatives in West Africa AAYC member countries.

Dr. Abdullah expressed his gratitude to the AAYC for selecting Nigeria to coordinate West African countries through the newly established AAYC West Africa Regional Coordinator office. He pledged his full support and collaboration with the office, recognizing the importance of harnessing the energy and potential of young people to achieve sustainable development in the region.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria plays a big role in the formulation and implementation of energy policies in Nigeria. Its mandate includes planning and coordinating the development of the country’s energy resources, ensuring efficient energy utilization, and promoting research and development in the energy sector.

During the meeting, the Secretary General of the AAYC conveyed his appreciation for the President of Nigeria’s leadership style, particularly his focus on empowering young people. This approach aligns with the AAYC’s mission of fostering youth leadership and development across the African and Arab regions. The Secretary General highlighted the potential for future collaborations between the AAYC and the Energy Commission of Nigeria, emphasizing areas of shared objectives such as energy sustainability, innovation, and capacity building for young people.

One of the key topics of discussion was the potential for joint initiatives that leverage the expertise of the Commission in promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency among the youth. By integrating energy education into the AAYC’s programs, young people can be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to the energy sector’s growth and innovation. Dr. Abdullah expressed enthusiasm for these collaborative efforts, recognizing the crucial role that educated and empowered youth can play in achieving energy sustainability.
