In a show of solidarity with the war-stricken people of Sudan, the Secretary General of the Afro-Arab Youth Council (AAYC), Hon. Dr. Abbas Agaba, led a team from AAYC that made a courtesy visit to the Sudanese Embassy in Kampala this morning.
During the meeting, Dr. Abbas Agaba expressed AAYC’s deep concern for the plight of the Sudanese youth, women, and children, who have been severely affected by the ongoing conflict.
He highlighted the dire conditions faced by those displaced, including the lack of shelter and food.
On behalf of AAYC, Dr. Agaba appealed for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, urging regional and international bodies like IGAD, the East African Community (EAC), and the Arab League to exert pressure on the warring factions to ensure that peace talks continue.
He clarified how AAYC is standing in solidarity with the Sudanese people, especially the youth, who are the future of this great nation.
He also pledged AAYC’s unwavering support in any capacity to aid in the restoration of peace.
During the meeting, also Dr. Agaba briefed H.E. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Sudanese Ambassador, on the progress of AAYC, which was founded in Khartoum.
He informed the Ambassador about the recent donation of land by Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the construction of AAYC’s headquarters, as well as the signing of the host country agreement.
Among the projects to be built on the land include a sports stadium, University of Science and technology, cultural and recreation facility, office block and a hotel.
In response, Ambassador Ibrahim thanked Dr. Agaba for the visit and blamed external actors with vested interests in Sudan for the ongoing havoc.
He pledged to collaborate with AAYC in efforts to restore peace. The Ambassador also addressed concerns about individuals in Khartoum falsely claiming affiliation with AAYC, reassuring that Sudan now has a national youth council aligned with AAYC’s vision.
Ambassador Ibrahim further requested Dr. Agaba to leverage his legal and educational expertise to support Sudanese youth whose education has been disrupted by the war. He also sought assistance in helping highly qualified Sudanese doctors secure licenses to practice in Uganda.
The two leaders agreed to work together to hold a virtual forum aimed at rallying for peace in Sudan.
This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening the ties between AAYC and the Sudanese government, as both parties committed to fostering peace and providing much-needed support to the people of Sudan.
