Afro-Arab Youth Council Holds a Culture And Sports Gala in Jinja District

As the the Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) continues its 20th anniversary celebrations in partnership with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), the two held spectacular Sports and Cultural Day at Jinja Secondary School in Jinja district under the theme “Sports & Culture For Wellbeing.”

The event began with a marathon which was flagged off by Hon. Ebenezer Oyetakin, from Nigeria, with runners ranging from girls, boys,  women, men, and the elderly.

The event was not just about athleticism; it was a cultural extravaganza featuring colorful performances from various dance traditions, including Kiganda Dance, Kisoga Dance, Larakaraka, and captivating    International Cultural Dances from Libya.

The official from the Gabula foundation, Isaac Imaka, the Executive Director of the Gabula Royal Foundation, said having the Marathon run in Jinja SS, falls right within our Busoga Kingdom Agenda, that seeks to promote health and well-being among Youths.
Imaka thanked AAYC for choosing Busoga to display the Rich culture of the Africans and Arabs in the cultural Gala. Busoga has the richest culture that has won international recognition. From, our dancing, to music, to the food, and way of life; we express the connection to the diversity of Humanity and Solidarity.

He urged the AAYC to create more synergies for the promotion of Peace, Unity, and Development among the Youth. Because when you empower a youth, you have empowered the family, and then the community, and the Nation.

Over 100 participated in the marathon and later the winners were awarded goats, mattresses and a heifer.
