Ms. Amina Hilmi, the Deputy Secretary General of the Afro-Arab Youth Council, emphasized the importance of investing in knowledge and development to achieve a brighter future for Africa. She called for prioritizing education and lifelong learning, ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for societal and economic development.
During the 60th anniversary celebrations for African Unity (AU) at Kololo Independence Grounds, Ms. Amina urged African nations to enhance their education systems and promote equal access to education. By doing so, societies and economies can be built on a foundation of educated and skilled individuals.
In addition to education, Ms. Amina stressed the need for political and economic stability in African countries. This requires strengthening good governance mechanisms, fighting corruption, and improving laws pertaining to human rights and freedom of expression. These measures are crucial for establishing a conducive environment for development and progress.
To foster sustainable development, Ms. Amina highlighted the significance of promoting investments in various sectors such as industry, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure. By focusing on sustainable development practices, the livelihoods of people can be improved, job opportunities can be created, and poverty can be reduced.
Addressing the issue of youth unemployment, which affects a significant portion of Africa’s youth population, Ms. Amina called for the provision of suitable and dignified employment opportunities. This can be achieved through the encouragement of small and medium-sized enterprises, entrepreneurship promotion, and active involvement of women in leadership and development. Ensuring women’s participation in decision-making processes is essential for achieving inclusive and equitable development.
