Context Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) was formed in 2004 at the conclusion of the first ever African and Arab Youth Festival held in Khartoum, Sudan as per the Khartoum Declaration. Its headquarters shifted to Kampala in 2008 at the conclusion of the second similar festival in which the youth gathered in Munyonyo decided to construct a permanent home as secretariate for the AAYC in Uganda as per the Kampala communique. The AAYC aims to use practical approaches to deal with youth pressing issues and provide realistic solutions which corelate with the current times. It is therefore an advocacy/lobby group for youth with membership of over 50 countries of the Africana and Arab world including African Union, Arab League and other International bodies.

 

Position objective The Projects and Program officer is responsible for initiating and executing project proposals, monitoring and evaluation collaborating with the Projects and Programs Manager.

 

Main duties (50%)
  • Assist with the implementation of the fundraising strategy including research.
  • Ensure Projects work plans are in alignment with the project designs and being implemented accordingly
  • Review and follow-up on reporting requirements and work plan and action plans
  • Bring to the Project and Programs Manager’s attention items that need further support or guidance
  • Establish an appropriate workable Management & Evaluation to support the different projects of the Organization.
  • Give scheduled reports to the Manager on all processes and implementation of each program. In addition to conducting project evaluation review to assess proper management of projects.
  • Assist in originating proposals for activities (programs of the AAYC)
  • Support in writing proposals for raising funds for different projects in line with the Organization.
  • Support the Projects and Programs Manager   with workload and co-implement initiatives as may be required and/or assigned
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by management.

Required Knowledge Skills and abilities

 

 

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs i.e. Word and Excel
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills with keen attention to details
  • Versatile while taking into consideration special assignments, frequent interruptions, available resources and multiple reporting relationships
  • Strong training & facilitation skills
  • Reliable, with high integrity and strong work ethic
  • Able to create a sense of cohesion within teams
  • Able to keep a positive attitude in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience
  • University Degree in Community Development, Project Management, Project Planning, Development, Development studies and Social work and social administration or related fields
  • A minimum of two (2) years of work experience in community development programs, project management, facilitation and leaderships or related field
  • Knowledge on functioning of International NGOs
