Context Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) was formed in 2004 at the conclusion of the first ever African and Arab Youth Festival held in Khartoum, Sudan as per the Khartoum Declaration. Its headquarters shifted to Kampala in 2008 at the conclusion of the second similar festival in which the youth gathered in Munyonyo decided to construct a permanent home as secretariate for the AAYC in Uganda as per the Kampala communique. The AAYC aims to use practical approaches to deal with youth pressing issues and provide realistic solutions which corelate with the current times. It is therefore an advocacy/lobby group for youth with membership of over 50 countries of the Africana and Arab world including African Union, Arab League and other international bodies.

 

Position Objective In charge of collaborating with various Youth Organizations both Government and Non-Government, Universities & Other Institutions of Higher Learning, and Civil Society Organizations.

 

Main duties (50%)
  • Liaise with National Youth organizations to process: –
  • Membership (National) with AAYC.
  • Partnerships for common programs and projects.
  • National legislation regarding government and youth organizations, consultation
  • Keep an updated register of youth organization and other organization dealing with youth and civil society organizations.
  • Organize cultural and other similar events which promote the vision of AAYC.
  • Draft, assess possible partnerships with different youth organizations.
  • Advise the AAYC on possible linkages and areas of common interest with other organizations involved in similar vision.
  • Establish and follow-up AAYC University charters in liaison with the Secretary General.
  • Share Opportunities with such organizations working for youth with youth interests.
  • Carry out similar tasks assigned by the Secretary General.

Required Knowledge Skills and abilities

 

 

  • Excellent management and coordination skills
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to function in a multi-cultural environment
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Flexible, resourceful and able to perform despite tight schedules
  • Has a strong stakeholder focus and service-oriented attitude

 

Academic Qualifications and Experience
  • At least three years’ working experience in a similar capacity
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, marketing communications or any relevant field
  • Qualification or experience in working with Youth and Civil Society Organizations
  • Knowledge of dynamics of youth leadership and civil society.
  • Lobbying and advocacy skills.
  • Versatility and ability to work with minimum supervision
