Context Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) was formed in 2004 at the conclusion of the first ever African and Arab Youth Festival held in Khartoum, Sudan as per the Khartoum Declaration. Its headquarters shifted to Kampala in 2008 at the conclusion of the second similar festival in which the youth gathered in Munyonyo decided to construct a permanent home as secretariate for the AAYC in Uganda as per the Kampala communique. The AAYC aims to use practical approaches to deal with youth pressing issues and provide realistic solutions which corelate with the current times. It is therefore an advocacy/lobby group for youth with membership of over 50 countries of the Africana and Arab world including African Union, Arab League and other international bodies.

 

Position Objective Writing and producing presentations and press releases. Dealing with enquiries from the public, the press, and related organizations. Organizing and attending promotional events such as press conferences, open days, exhibitions, tours, and visits, speaking publicly at interviews, press conferences and presentations and ensuring all media arms of the Organization are running.

 

 

Main Duties (50%)

  • Develop PR campaigns and media relations strategies
  • Create and manage the Organization’s social media pages.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. marketing) and maintain open communication with senior management.
  • Edit and update promotional material and publications (brochures, videos, social media posts etc.)
  • Prepare and distribute press releases.
  • Organize PR events (e.g. open days, press conferences) and serve as the company’s spokesperson
  • Seek opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising
  • Address inquiries from the media and other parties
  • Track media coverage and follow industry trends
  • Prepare and submit PR reports
  • Manage PR issues
  • Assist the Manager for Communications & PR to create and disseminate articles and for media both online and paper media.

Required Knowledge Skills and abilities

 

 

  • Proven experience in communications and media management especially social media.
  • Experience in managing media relations (online, broadcast and print)
  • Background in researching, writing, and editing publications
  • Proficient in MS Office and social media
  • Familiarity with project management software and video/photo editing is an added advantage.
  • Strong communication ability (oral and written)
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Creativity and problem-solving aptitude
  • Proficiency in English, Arabic, or any other official language of the member countries of AAYC.
Academic Qualifications and Experiences
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, ICT, Business, Language, Education, International Relations, Journalism or a related field from a recognized Institutions.
  • Ability to speak English and Arabic or French is a must.
  • Proven ability to communicate regularly on social media including twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, email, etc
  • Knowledge of functioning of International NGOs
